Microsoft has revealed global price increases for Xbox hardware and software, effective May 1, 2025, citing “market conditions and the rising cost of development.” The Xbox Series X will see a significant $100 price jump in the US, while the Xbox Series S and accessories like controllers and headsets will also cost more.

First-party game prices will remain unchanged for now but are set to rise from $70 to $80 starting with the holiday season, though international pricing details are still unclear. Existing game prices will not be affected. In the US, the standard disc-based Xbox Series X will increase from $499.99 to $599.99, marking its first price hike since the console’s launch nearly five years ago.

The disc-free Series X model will rise from $449.99 to $549.99, and the 2TB model will jump by $130, from $599.99 to $729.99. The Xbox Series S will see an $80 increase for both its 512GB model, now $380, and 1TB model, now $450. In Europe, the Series X disc edition will climb by £20/€50 to £499.99/€599.99, following a previous increase in 2023, while the 2TB model rises by £40/€50 to £589.99/€699.99. The 512GB Series S in Europe will increase by £50/€50 to £349.99/€349.99.

Accessories are also affected, with Xbox controllers seeing global price increases. In the US and Canada, headsets will cost more, though specific figures were not disclosed. Microsoft acknowledged that these changes are “challenging” but necessary to address economic pressures.
