How do we rate games?

The final rating in the review by the IndieGames.eu team consists of an assessment of the game in three categories and the reviewer's personal impression. Both parts have an equal impact on the grade, i.e. from 1 to 5.

The categories in which we evaluate games may differ from reviewer to reviewer, but essentially they are gameplay, presentation, graphics, content, technicalities, story, etc. Please note that, for the best impression of the game, it is best to read the review itself, and not watch only the final grade.

Rating ranking

1 – 1.9: Severely Flawed Games
Games in this category suffer from significant flaws, such as pervasive technical issues, poor graphics, or poorly executed mechanics. These titles are often frustrating to play and lack redeeming qualities, making them difficult to recommend to anyone.

2 – 2.9: Below Average Games
These games are underwhelming and fall short of expectations. While they may have a few positive elements, their overall quality is lacking, and they fail to deliver a compelling or enjoyable experience. Only niche audiences might find something to appreciate.

3 – 3.9: Solid but Flawed Games
Games in this range are decent and provide a functional gaming experience. They have noticeable strengths but are held back by flaws or lack of polish. While not groundbreaking, they are enjoyable for certain audiences and may appeal to fans of specific genres.

4 – 4.4: Highly Recommended Games
These are excellent games that come close to perfection. They offer engaging gameplay, high-quality production, and memorable experiences. While they may have minor flaws or areas for improvement, they are highly enjoyable and recommended for most players.

4.5 – 5: Masterpiece-Level Games
This category represents the best of the best — games that excel in every aspect, from technical execution to storytelling, gameplay, and innovation. These titles are often considered industry benchmarks and are must-play experiences for any gamer.

It's important to note that there is no single correct approach to video game reviews. While objective reviews emphasize the technical aspects, subjective reviews give more insight into how the game will appeal to individual players. When playing video games, it is often useful to use objective and subjective elements in combination to provide a complete and informative assessment. It is important for the reviewer to clearly indicate whether the review is objective or subjective so that readers know what to expect.
