A roguelike horror action game SHINONOME ABYSS: The Maiden Exorcist was meant to release in fall 2024. However developer WODAN and publishers Kadokawa Corporation, Kadokawa Game Linkage, and ABC ANIMATION decided to delay the game to 2025. It will be available for Switch and PC via Steam.

Shrine maiden Yono follows the footsteps of her missing Onmyouji brother. She ends up at a terrifying mansion haunted by yokai and vengeful spirits called Mononoke. With limited items and traps at your disposal, you will need knowledge, experience, and courage to survive the endlessly-changing halls and rooms.

When Yono is in great danger, a different side of her personality is revealed, granting her new strength. In the game, you will need to anticipate and control this transformation to gain an advantage over the Mononoke. You will listen for sounds and other clues to uncover the type and number of spirits in the adjacent room. Additionally, you will have to lure the Mononoke into traps you’ve set, and utilize environmental elements like fireplaces and damaged floors to secure victory.

Take on the challenges of the mansion in three unique modes that change the play experience:

  • Harai – Fixed maps that challenge you to solve specific puzzles.
  • Misogi – Escape randomly-generated maps in a more casual experience.
  • Gyou – Hardcore randomly-generated maps with a heavy focus on survival.
