Hooded Horse, the publisher of the medieval city-building and strategy game Manor Lords, has hinted at the possibility of exploring new settings in the future. After the game’s highly praised early access launch last year, fans are eager to learn what could be next for this title.
Joe Robinson, Director of Communications at Hooded Horse, revealed in an interview with the VideoGamer Podcast that lead developer Grzegorz Styczeń has considered expanding Manor Lords beyond its current medieval German setting. While the focus during the early access period remains on the original setting, Robinson shared that Greg has entertained the idea of exploring other eras and cultures, especially when fans inquire about potential expansions.
“He has talked about, yeah, this setting or that setting might be cool to do at some point,” Robinson said. Fans have already suggested intriguing possibilities, including ancient Rome and feudal Japan, which they believe would align well with the game’s detailed mechanics.
One of the standout qualities of Manor Lords is its polished gameplay. Robinson explained that Greg prefers to collect and address issues in batches rather than releasing a series of rapid hotfixes. This approach prioritizes stability and refinement over rushing fixes, ensuring a better experience for players. “Greg’s philosophy was always to polish as much as possible,” Robinson said.
Despite a significant drop in player count since its early access peak of over 173,000 players nine months ago, Manor Lords still maintains a dedicated community of more than 10,000 regular players. Robinson shared that player feedback plays a crucial role in shaping the game. Feedback is gathered through various channels, including the game’s active Discord community, Steam reviews, and input from content creators and press. A QA company also assists in tracking and replicating issues to ensure efficient fixes.
