Publisher 505 Games and developer MercurySteam have announced their new action-adventure game, Blades of Fire, set to release on May 22 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via the Epic Games Store. MercurySteam, a Spanish development studio, is best known for its work on the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow series.
Blades of Fire takes place in a fantasy world where you assume the role of Arana de Lire, the last warrior capable of wielding steel, and Ads, a young scholar whose knowledge of lost myths and sacred languages can shape their destiny. After Queen Nerea casts a spell that turns steel into stone, only weapons forged from divine metal can stand against her army of monsters.
One of the game’s standout features is its weapon forging system, allowing you to create nearly endless weapon combinations. By discovering Forge Scrolls and upgrading their forging skills, you can mix and match various alloys, handles, runes, and blades to craft the perfect weapon for any situation. Since each enemy type presents a unique challenge, choosing the right weapon is crucial for victory.
The combat system is also great, enabling you to target specific enemy body parts. Depending on the situation and the enemy’s armor, you can stab or strike, using different tactics to gain the upper hand. Additionally, the game features large castles, palaces, and other locations to explore while battling over 50 types of enemies, including the Queen’s elite guards and monstrous creatures.
