11 bit studios, the creators of This War of Mine and Frostpunk, have announced a delay for their upcoming survival game, The Alters. Originally planned for release in Q1 2025, the game is now set to launch later in the same year. The Alters will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, and Microsoft Store, as well as on Game Pass.
In The Alters, you play as Jan Dolski, an ordinary man stranded on a distant and dangerous planet. Facing impossible odds, Jan must rely on alternate versions of himself, created using a mysterious substance called Rapidium to survive. These “alters” are different versions of Jan, each shaped by a key decision he made in the past. Together, they must work to overcome the planet’s challenges and find a way home.
In a lore-themed message, 11 bit studios explained the delay as a necessary step to ensure The Alters meets their high standards. The additional time will allow the team to refine the game’s mechanics, enhance its features, and deliver a more polished and rewarding experience. The studio emphasized that “almost ready” is not part of their vocabulary, and they are committed to delivering a game that lives up to players’ expectations.
