The post Paralives Is Releasing in December 2025, Should You Look Forward to It? first appeared on IndieGames.

]]>
According to the official announcement at the PC Gaming Show 2025, Paralives is set to launch in Early Access on Steam for PC and Mac on December 8, 2025. For those who don’t know, Paralives is a life simulation game that’s been in development since 2019, initially as a solo project by Alex Massé, now expanded into a small team at Paralives Studio in Quebec.

Positioned as a competitor to The Sims, it promises a cozy, creative, and highly customizable experience where players craft characters, build homes, and manage their lives in an open-world town. Think of it as a spiritual successor to early Sims games, focusing on detailed building, storytelling, and daily life with a softer, painterly art style.

Unlike The Sims’ expansive DLC model, Paralives commits to no paid DLC, offering free updates post-launch to expand features. However, as the studio stated on their Steam page, it will be priced at 39.99$ for Early Access, with a planned price increase after the initial phase.

Everything we can expect from its features

Paralives Early Access version will have a solid foundation but not all planned features:

  • Live Mode: Core systems like relationships, interactions, emotions, and daily needs (hunger, hygiene) for Parafolk. You’ll manage their lives, from work to socializing, in an open-world neighborhood.
  • Build Mode: Highly flexible tools for home construction, featuring curved walls, customizable furniture, and precise resizing/coloring options, and allows freeform building.
  • Paramaker: Deep character creation with extensive customization for appearance, clothing, and personalities.
  • Mod Support: Day-one modding tools, encouraging community creations.
  • Content: A variety of furniture, decor, and family types (single parents, large families, platonic groups), with a focus on diversity and queer inclusion.

However, some features will be missing at launch, to be added via free updates:

  • Babies and toddlers (though older children are included).
  • Pets.
  • Advanced relationship mechanics (complex family dynamics).
  • Expanded career and world interactions.

Should You Look Forward to it?

After years of The Sims dominating the market, with inZOI just starting to gain traction, Paralives offers a new perspective. It features charming, cozy aesthetics and focuses on fundamental building and storytelling. Its open-world town and tactile build mode feel like a tribute to early Sims fans. Other that, Paralives doesn’t really feel artifical like the Sims.

A major draw is the promise of free updates, a welcome change from The Sims’ costly expansion packs. Paralives’ build mode does offer proper flexibility with curved walls, custom sizing, and detailed decor, outshining many competitors. If you love designing homes, this could be a dream sandbox. The developers have also built trust through six years of transparent updates via Patreon and social media.

However, you should still be wary of the game. As with any Early Access title, Paralives won’t be complete at launch. Missing features like babies, pets, or refined relationships might disappoint some. Unlike The Sims’ massive EA backing or inZOI’s Krafton resources, Paralives Studio is a small indie team. While their passion is evident, content depth and polish may take time to match larger competitors.

Early Access often brings technical issues. If you’re sensitive to glitches, you might prefer waiting for post-launch patches. Paralives isn’t aiming for The Sims’ scope but a more focused, cozy experience. If you crave expansive gameplay (like complex careers or world events), it might feel limited at first. Remember, Early Access means it’s still a work in progress.

The post Should You Give Architect Life: A House Design Simulator a Try? first appeared on IndieGames.

]]>
Architect Life: A House Design Simulator, developed by Shine Research and published by NACON, was released on June 19, 2025 for PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. It might appeal to you if you enjoy creative simulation games focused on design and construction, but the real question is: Is it worth the 29,99€ price?

Architect Life puts you in charge of your own architectural firm, designing and building homes from 3D blueprints to final construction. It offers two main modes:

  • Free Mode: Unrestricted creativity across 60 terrain types. Design homes without client demands or budget limits.
  • Career Mode: Manage your firm through 60 unique missions. Design homes based on client needs, terrain, and budget.

Here’s the thing: NACON’s recent simulators have been questionable, and this one is no exception. I played the demo during Steam Next Fest and was disappointed by the poor tutorial and clumsy controls. While this is a subjective opinion, the Steam reviews from recent full release already tell the whole story.

It is supposed to let you design rooms, roofs, and balconies with precise measurements, choosing from various materials, coatings, and furniture. However, players are already noting that while the base game has solid foundations, it’s missing a lot of content. One review even stated: “I bought it to experiment some changes in my own home but it’s nearly impossible to do so.”

The most questionable thing is that Architect Life already has DLCs. The Supporter Edition includes the base game plus two content packs: the Sketch House Pack (for artistic 2D/3D illusions) and the Hobbies Pack (for leisure-themed rooms). You can also buy these DLCs separately. This game is part of NACON’s “Life” series, which has generally received mixed reviews.

In the end, it’s worth trying if you enjoy creative, relaxing building games like The Sims and love designing homes with extensive customization. But, if you’re sensitive to bugs, prefer deeper mechanics, or want more from a game, this one might not be for you. As one reviewer put it: “Good game for making floorplans, general layouts and and somewhat measurements.”

Primal Seed has announced Mandrake, a cozy simulation RPG with a magical twist, launching in Early Access on PC via Steam. This title invites you to tend magical gardens, explore a folklore-rich world, and unravel the secrets of a small British village. It has that fantasy RPG vibe of Mirthwood mixed with Perennial Order’s strange creatures, but less grotesque.

You play as a sorcerer from a forbidden line of horticultural mages, returning to your family’s abandoned castle in Chandley village. Here, gardening isn’t ordinary: you’ll grow everyday plants like runner beans and turnips alongside mystical ones like thunder-calling taran. Your goal is to restore the castle’s tangled grounds by placing garden beds, decorations, and cozy spots, nurturing both mundane and magical plants from seed to harvest.

The game’s open world is alive with uncanny spirits and old powers in which you’ll also meet a cast of various villagers, each with their own stories. Evening activities include reading ancient books by candlelight, cooking new recipes, or drinking tea with the god in your chimney. However, the world follows the Covenant of the Hearth: lights go out at night, and the Mara, otherworldly beings, rule the darkness.

Solo developer AuntyGames, with publisher Future Friends Games, announced Gourdlets Together during this month’s Wholesome Direct Showcase. This multiplayer sequel to their beloved cozy sandbox game, Gourdlets, is slated for PC via Steam in 2025, though no release date is confirmed.

In this sequel, you’ll also design your own peaceful island and create a colorful home for the Gourdlet characters. However, this is all upgraded by multiplayer, where players can visit friends’ islands, build side-by-side, and chat.

The game adds a new fishing mechanic, letting you cast lines to catch various fish. You can then spend your earnings on cute accessories, buildings, and decorations, personalizing your island until it feels like home. While Gourdlets Together is a standalone game, it builds on the success of Gourdlets, which has a “Very Positive” 93% rating on Steam from 1,579 reviews.

Small indie studio Humble Reeds announced Heidi’s Legacy: Mountains Calling, a simulation adventure set in the Swiss Alps. Revealed during the Wholesome Direct showcase this month, this cozy game blends nurturing gameplay with hand-drawn visuals, inspired by the timeless Heidi novels. It’s slated for release on PC via Steam in 2026, though no exact date is confirmed.

In Heidi’s Legacy, you play as Adèle, a young woman leaving city life for the peaceful Swiss Alps, seeking a simpler purpose. Each day starts with morning light and your goats, ready for your care. You’ll guide them through meadows, and in return, their milk and wool become resources for crafting goods like cheese, wool clothing, herbal remedies, and wooden carvings.

These creations can be traded or shared with villagers, strengthening your bonds and helping rebuild their homes and lives. Every choice shapes your relationships and the village’s future, with branching dialogue. Additionally, you’ll forage for herbs and mushrooms and fish in calm waters. As you aid the village, new abilities unlock, making it easier to climb rugged cliffs or leap across gaps, opening up hidden areas.

[KOMENTAR] Dragi Konami, vrijeme je da vratite Yu-Gi-Oh! The post [OPINION] Dear Konami, it’s time to bring back the Yu-Gi-Oh! Tag Force series first appeared on IndieGames.

]]>
I think now is the best time Konami brought back the Yu-Gi-Oh! Tag Force series. Recently, a huge wave of nostalgia hit me, so I fired up my PlayStation 2 and revisited the original Yu-Gi-Oh! Tag Force GX from 2006. Honestly, these are some of the most unique yet amazing games ever produced by Konami.

They’re essentially dating sims where, alongside collecting cards through RPG mechanics and earning money, you follow the anime’s original story and battle opponents across different worlds. It was a brilliant way to leverage everything players love while introducing them to the main characters and game rules.

Seven Great Games, But Where’s the Eighth?

After delivering seven mostly excellent games, Konami, for unknown reasons, shifted to producing lackluster titles. This decade, we got Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel, Yu-Gi-Oh! Cross Duel (which shut down quickly), Yu-Gi-Oh! Early Days Collection (bringing back some old games), and Yu-Gi-Oh! RUSH DUEL: Saikyo Battle Royale Let’s Go Go Rush for Nintendo Switch.

Despite the anime still running and introducing new ideas and worlds, we haven’t had a truly great Yu-Gi-Oh! game in nearly five years. It’s unclear why Konami stopped making quality games and focused solely on mobile titles. Beyond poor marketing and underdeveloped English versions, games weren’t always released for PC or consoles beyond Nintendo and PlayStation. Even then, priorities kept shifting, often catering exclusively to the Japanese market. It’s baffling how someone can hold a goldmine like this and fail to capitalize on it.

Maybe Yu-Gi-Oh! wasn’t as popular a decade ago, but today’s landscape is different. A quality release with a touch of nostalgia would sell well, given the franchise’s massive following. When will we see another Yu-Gi-Oh! GX: Tag Force 3 or Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s: Tag Force 5? Why not bundle individual collections for sale? Why not port to all consoles and PC, or release remasters or remakes, which are common today? So many questions, yet no answers.

It’s Time for a Modern Yu-Gi-Oh! Game

The main draw of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Tag Force games lies in their “Tag Force” mechanic, where you duel as a team rather than solo. While solo battles were possible, the heart of the game was partnering with characters like Jaden Yuki or Yusei Fudo for joint battles. Even if not everyone follows the latest anime, this is a perfect chance for Konami to reintroduce these characters. The games emphasized deck synergy, smart strategy, and featured impressive graphics for their time.

What made Tag Force stand out was its ability to bring the Yu-Gi-Oh! world to life. Beyond mastering complex dueling strategies, you could live as a duelist—attending classes, following the story, competing in tournaments, and feeling the thrill of opening booster packs to perfect your deck. These games deepened your understanding of Yu-Gi-Oh! card rules.

Imagine exploring an open-world Duel Academy or New Domino City on Nintendo Switch 2 or PlayStation 5, with stunning visuals and fully voiced cutscenes. Picture online co-op tag battles and cross-generational tournaments — endless possibilities. With modern gaming embracing cozy RPGs, simulation elements, and card-based tactics, now is the ideal time to revive the Tag Force series in a fresh, modern form.

  • I have to admit, Projected Dreams surprised me in a good way. I never imagined a game where we would use shadow wall projections to solve puzzles; it truly feels like stepping into a childhood memory. You join Senka, a young girl, in recreating shadow puppet silhouettes using toys and household objects. This unravels a bittersweet, wordless family story that spans 50 years. It’s a cozy, wholesome, and stress-free nostalgic experience, though it does have its flaws.

Projected Dreams offers many interesting puzzles

The core gameplay revolves around dragging toys, mugs, boxes and many other objects from shelves onto a table, positioning them in front of a light source to cast shadows that match a silhouette in Senka’s photo album. You will rotate, stack, and sometimes resize objects using mouse, keyboard or controller inputs. The puzzles start simple, such as aligning a single toy to form a rabbit but grow complex with mechanics like dual light sources, “ghost” objects (invisible in shadows), and sticky items that glue pieces together.

Despite some interesting ideas, the game’s physics-based elements are a bit clumsy. Changing the sides of an object you’re holding feels really weird, and it’s slightly frustrating to use arrows for alignment while rotation has a separate button. It’s not terrible, but takes time to get used to. However, the puzzles themselves were super interesting and became more engaging as the game progressed.

My biggest positive is the hint system, accessible on the back of each photo. Some hints did spoil solutions by clearly showing which objects to use. While you’ll rarely need them, there will be times you do get stuck, struggling to find the right solution because some projections look truly weird and it’s hard to tell which objects are needed.

“The game’s physics-based elements are a bit clumsy.”

    Environments change as you progress

The game unfolds in an ever-evolving room that mirrors Senka’s life stages (child, teen, and adult). You will also explore the environment to find collectible objects like cassette tapes, which unlock musical snippets, or trinkets that decorate the photo album. However, searching for specific items can be frustrating, as some are hard to spot in cluttered rooms, and the absence of a clear inventory system means you’ll be repeatedly scanning shelves.

Each chapter of the book tells you if you missed any secrets and how many stars you earned; there are three stars per level, which nicely encourages you to get all three instead of just one. Overall, the experience was pleasant and cozy. It didn’t waste your time, and these types of games are approachable to everyone. It was fun to try and find multiple ways to beat a level.

Another great aspect of the game is its graphics, filled with 90s nostalgia, using a soft, colorful palette of pastels. The 2D illustrations in the photo album tell the story with “funny graphics and special adornments”, balancing humor and touching moments. Animations are minimal but effective, and the entire game has a charming cartoonish feel.

“Each chapter of the book tells you if you missed any secrets and how many stars you earned.”

A short experience, but one you’ll finish feeling satisfied with

While Projected Dreams seems easy at first, some puzzles will definitely test your brain. It’s ideal for those seeking a peaceful, reflective puzzle experience. The game stands out for its effective use of nostalgia, and despite occasional hiccups in physics and controls, it’s an easy recommendation for anyone who enjoys this genre. In fact, it’s a short experience, likely taking around 3-4 hours to complete, but it’s still a very worthy buy.

    Pros Cons
Relaxing gameplay. The game's physics are clumsy.
    Visually beautiful game. Short duration.
Creative puzzles. Sometimes it's hard to find the items you're looking for.
    The rooms are constantly changing.

  • Forget The Sims and Inzoi for a moment; Small Spaces offers a different kind of creative gameplay. Jokes aside, while it’s not as advanced for structural building, it provides a charming and cozy interior design experience. You’ll fill pre-made spaces and rooms, selecting furniture, decorations, and layouts to optimize limited areas. The game looks amazing, and you unlock more items as you play. Early Access currently includes three room styles, ranging from industrial to Japanese, along with a shop to acquire new items.

    Simple building process

When I mention “progress,” it means completing client requests for each of the nine apartments. These are loose objectives, like adding a workspace or a cozy reading nook. Clients might also ask for specific items, such as a sofa, a TV, or even a painting collection, to earn stars that you use in shops. The biggest plus is that there’s a huge catalog of furniture and decor, ranging from beds and sofas to plants, kitchen utensils, and sewing accessories.

Items are placed using a simple drag-and-drop interface, with options to rotate, paint, and adjust them for tight spaces. A “snap-to-grid” system ensures precise placement, and a one-click painting tool handles walls, floors, and surfaces. The game emphasizes modular design, letting you create clever solutions like loft beds or foldable tables to maximize functionality. You can even fit objects inside each other, such as an oven in a cabinet or a stove on top of it.

You can personalize spaces further with indirect lighting, plants, or wall art, creating unique layouts like open-plan kitchens. My biggest complaint, however, is that while redesigning apartments with different styles adds replayability, the lack of a sandbox mode at Early Access launch limits freeform creativity. You can’t truly make your own small spaces and homes from scratch, essentially forcing you to complete the game before fully enjoying all unlocked items.

“There’s a huge catalog of furniture and decor, ranging from beds and sofas to plants.”

Cozy and relaxing, though it has some bugs

Small Spaces does have its share of bugs. For instance, I got stuck in a doorway when switching from top-down to first-person view, and opening doors felt clumsy. Another bug I encountered involved items getting stuck, making them impossible to properly select and delete. Beyond the bugs, some players might find their PC struggling with the game’s graphics as the 3D-rendered apartments are richly detailed, with realistic wood grains, fabric patterns, and metallic finishes.

While highly advanced and realistic, there’s also some visual clutter, such as odd lighting on flat surfaces. The UI also feels clumsy; when you delete an item, you’re not returned to the menu of clicked objects, forcing you to re-click and scroll, which is a bit annoying. Finally, there’s a day and night cycle, but I couldn’t find a way to change it automatically.

Let’s be honest, the progression system feels sparse; you can unlock everything rather quickly, in about two hours, without much effort. While there’s no story, the Early Access version shows great potential for future additions, from a larger catalog of objects to even modding possibilities, which might allow players to add their own creations.

“While highly advanced and realistic, there’s also some visual clutter.”

Worth it if you’re fan of cozy games

If you’re not into cozy games or want more than just decorating, this game isn’t for you. Its gameplay is purely relaxing and engaging, offering a satisfying creative experience for those who enjoy spatial design. In the end, Small Spaces is totally worth it and fun to experiment with. It could truly become a proper hidden gem if it fulfills all its Early Access plans.

    Pros Cons
Relaxing gameplay. It has its bugs.
Visually beautiful game. Graphically demanding game.
Large selection of furniture and decorations. The progression system seems sparse.
    Simple construction.

Solo developer Joyen is launching Loya, an ambitious open-world survival RPG, into Early Access on PC via Steam in 2025, while an exact date isn’t confirmed yet. This unique multiplayer game invites you to explore a vast fantasy world, craft huge walking fortresses, and battle towering giant bosses to collect their cores.

You’re summoned to a mysterious world with a huge task: slay colossal giants to get their magical cores. To do this, you can build enormous mobile fortresses with cannons and defensive towers, turning them into walking or even flying war machines. These fortresses need energy cubes to run, which you craft from resources found across the land. Gathering these materials isn’t easy, as enemies fiercely guard them, forcing you into strategic fights to power your creations.

The open world of Loya is filled with diverse biomes each hiding caves, dungeons, and villages. You can take your time discovering secrets, fishing, cooking, or tackling quests with randomized rewards. Puzzles are woven into the environment, adding variety and challenging you to think creatively to unlock treasures or progress. For those who love companions, you can capture and mount pets to join your journey.

Loya offers four distinct classes, unlocked at an in-game altar, providing varied playstyles like melee, ranged, or magic. A crafting system with a forge and procedural items lets you create weapons, tools, and structures, while a gem system and talent tree add further customization depth. Additionally, multiplayer supports up to 25 players per server in co-op or private modes.
