Fans of challenging action RPGs have reason to celebrate: Mortal Shell II is officially on the way. Announced at Summer Game Fest on June 6, 2025, the sequel from developer Cold Symmetry and publisher Playstack is set to launch in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam. You can now wishlist the game on Steam, and beta sign-ups are open for those eager to get an early taste.

Mortal Shell II thrusts you back into a shattered world as the Foundling, a wraithlike being who inhabits the bodies, or “Shells” of fallen warriors. The original game was praised for its unique Shell-switching mechanic, letting players adopt different combat styles, and its haunting environments. The sequel expands on this foundation, introducing new Shells, weapons, and a larger world.

While story details are scarce, the reveal trailer showed amazing visuals, from icy caverns to twisted towers, hinting at a deeper dive into the lore of Fallgrim and beyond. Combat in Mortal Shell II will likely keep the methodical, high-stakes intensity of its predecessor, with improvements based on community feedback. The first game’s innovative hardening mechanic, which let you turn to stone to block attacks, is expected to return alongside new abilities to add strategic depth.
