It’s remarkable how a single developer can create a successful game, and that’s exactly what Nikita Sozidar from Ukraine has achieved with his first-person hack-and-slash title VOIN, released last December. Currently boasting a very positive rating on Steam, the upcoming Permafrost update, which introduces new snowy peaks and brutal battles, is expected in June (with no specific date yet). During tinyBuild Connect, we got fresh insight into the game through a new location, as well as a deeper character progression and loot system that transforms gameplay.
In VOIN, you are an elemental warrior created by a mysterious mage, tasked with cutting through a plague-ravaged dark fantasy world to cleanse it of corruption. The Permafrost expansion throws you into the Athenium, a vast blizzard-swept region of snow-covered mountains and ice giants. “This place doesn’t offer a warm welcome,” Sozidar says in his devlog, and the trailer’s glimpses of towering enemies and treacherous terrain undeniably confirm this.
A major highlight is the new character progression system, centered on the Reflected Tree of Talents—a literal tree located in the Hall of Reflection. By collecting “Soul Fruits” during missions, you unlock passive skills, such as sprinting. In other words, you’ll have a wide array of combinations to experiment with within the game.
