I first played the Bang Bang Barrage demo last October, and it was clear the game had promising ideas, even in its early stages. Now, the new Steam Next Fest demo is vastly improved and I was genuinely surprised by its progress. This is a fun, fast-paced shooter offering both multiplayer and singleplayer modes. It’s all about chasing high scores, surviving as long as you can, and tackling various challenges while fending off hordes of hands and blobs.

Though small in scope, Bang Bang Barrage isn’t meant for one long sitting, it’s best enjoyed in short, multiple play sessions where you discover something new each time you play. Whether it’s new enemies, unique events like night or poison-filled maps, and much more, the game keeps drawing you back. You start with simple hands that stand still, but they evolve, moving randomly across the map or even chasing you. Plus, there are blobs on ships that shoot at you, and even flowers evolve too, making their attacks stronger and bigger.

Simple but fun gameplay

The gameplay is straightforward: you shoot and reload. If you run out of bullets, you can still fire a burst of air that pushes enemies away or propels you. Be tactical with this air blast, as using it resets your reload timer. Enemies drop diamonds, which you can spend at a shop that appears periodically. Here, you can purchase various buffs like more HP, increased bullets, or the ability to destroy enemy projectiles, among many other upgrades.

My only major concern is the potential for repetition. Instead of consistently introducing new bosses, the game presents them only after you survive for certain periods. While this gives you time to prepare, the slow evolution of regular enemies can deter some of the fun. This is subjective, of course; the map is always packed with action, leaving you little time to think. It’s much like old arcade games, but with a modern look where a single mistake can lead to instant death.

As mentioned, Bang Bang Barrage offers both singleplayer and multiplayer modes, with the latter playable via split-screen or online. The singleplayer experience seems less difficult and more balanced in terms of acquiring buffs from the shop, a great approach if you prefer to play solo. While its cartoonish style and simple gameplay might not appeal to everyone, the graphics are genuinely cute. The clean visuals ensure no unnecessary details clutter your view, and the clear UI makes shooting everything easy.

Packed with great ideas, only time will reveal if it succeeds

You earn gold by completing challenges and surviving for as long as possible. This gold can be spent in the in-game shop to customize your blob’s color, unlock new weapons, acquire new skins, and even buy different boats. There are no microtransactions here; everything is earnable simply by playing. The more you play, the more items you’ll collect and use. The demo is quite limited in this regard, offering only one weapon, one skin, and one boat, which unfortunately doesn’t encourage much replayability. However, there are global leaderboards where you can see every player’s score.

You earn points by defeating enemies and maintaining your combo. The higher your combo, the larger your damage radius, allowing you to clear more foes. If you miss an enemy, your combo resets, but you can quickly build it back up. This simple yet effective system ensures levels don’t become overwhelmingly difficult, even when you’re swarmed by enemies.

Overall, Bang Bang Barrage has the potential to be a fun little game for the right audience. If you’re looking for something to play during the Steam Next Fest, I highly recommend it. It won’t take much of your time, and you’ll get to try something cute and unique.

  • Fluffy Sailors be a charmin’ adventure where ye captain a ship crewed by animals, battlin’ rival animal pirates across ever-changin’ waters. Yer mission, handed by Her Majesty the Mouse Queen, is to rescue her royal cook, nabbed by gator scoundrels. Ye’ll sail through vibrant islands, fire yer crew as cannonballs (aye, ye heard right!), capture enemy ships, and grow stronger with each defeat in true roguelite fashion. Think Sea o’ Thieves meets Windward, but with cuddly critters and a quirky pirate heart.

Launch Mice and Ducks Wild Naval Combat

In Fluffy Sailors, ye steer a ship in real-time, usin’ WASD to dodge and weave, while left and right mouse buttons fire cannons from port or starboard. Here’s the kicker: yer ammo be yer fluffy crew: mice, ducks, or even raccoons launched at foes to deal damage or board their ships. Run outta crew, and ye’re a sittin’ duck, so strategy’s key. Ye can capture surrendered ships and add their unique tricks to yer fleet, like raccoon trash cannons or hamster wheel boats.

Each run starts at the Mouse Kingdom, where ye learn the ropes in a quick tutorial. Ye sail through maps, battlin’ enemy ships, dodgin’ storms, and nabbin’ salvage to upgrade yer vessel. If ye sink, no despair, ye return to the kingdom, spendin’ skill points on boosts like tougher hulls, faster shots, or more crew. This roguelite loop keeps ye comin’ back, each defeat makin’ ye stronger. An Endless Mode, added in Update 1.02, lets ye chase high scores after finishin’ the story.

The game’s simple at first but grows wilder as ye unlock new areas like Cat Belly Bay and Hedgehog Passage. Boss fights, with their one-of-a-kind mechanics, be thrillin’, though early runs depend too much on luck as strong foes can spawn too soon. The crew-as-ammo gimmick’s a hoot, but ye gotta plan shots carefully or ye’ll be defenseless mid-battle.

Stunning Visuals Bring Ocean World to Life

As ye sail the briny deep, ye can spruce up yer ships at the trader’s stall, but his wares cost a pretty pile o’ gold, makin’ it a bit o’ a grind to fully trick out yer vessel. Ye’ll need to polish all yer skills at the main dockyard before ye can best the final boss and make yer voyage a true joy. This game’s brimmin’ with charm, packed with quirky twists and adorable critters ye’ll meet on yer travels.

The whole game’s a cycle o’ sailin’ and battlin’ again and again, built fer replayin’, and it’ll hook ye for hours ‘cause it’s a proper blast to play. Some enemy ships be a touch too fierce, while others be lazin’ about like sleepy crabs. Once ye learn their shootin’ and sailin’ tricks, though, the seas get friendlier. Plus, there’s heaps o’ upgrade tiers to plunder, so yer ship keeps gettin’ mightier as ye go.

Blimey, the visuals be stunnin’! The seas shimmer with ripplin’ waves, and sunken ships lie on the ocean floor. Animal ships, like turtle-shaped vessels or hamster wheel contraptions, be cute yet fearsome, perfectly blendin’ whimsy and chaos. The world’s colorful, with dynamic weather, storms and high swells, make every battle feel alive.

    Swashbuckling Fun with Animal Pirates

Fluffy Sailors be a gem of a pirate game, blendin’ adorable animals with fierce sea battles in a way that’ll make ye grin like a shark with a fresh catch. The crew-as-cannonballs gimmick’s a blast, and the roguelite loop keeps ye sailin’ back for more, especially with Endless Mode for seasoned captains. Argh, Fluffy Sailors be a swashbucklin’ good time, with enough charm to make a kraken blush. It’s got a few leaks to patch, but this mouse-led adventure’ll have ye firin’ hamsters and capturin’ cat ships ‘til the sun sets on the horizon. Set sail, captain, and may the Mouse Queen guide yer path.

    Pros Cons

  • Echoes of Eldoria is an ambitious debut from Summit Studios, combining the punishing precision of Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy with the vertical challenge of Jump King. This 2D puzzle platformer casts you as a young wizard whose powers have been stolen by the dragon Eldaria. To reclaim your magical abilities, you’ll ascend through a whimsical, nature-rich world, solving environmental puzzles and mastering tight, responsive controls. With its charming aesthetic, clever speedrunning elements, and bite-sized gameplay sessions, Echoes of Eldoria is a labor of love, perfect for players who enjoy experimentation and a satisfying challenge.

Precision Meets Puzzles in a Vertical Quest

The core of Echoes of Eldoria is its vertical platforming loop: climb, leap, and puzzle your way up cliffs, waterfalls, and desert ruins to catch Eldaria. You start powerless, relying on basic jumps and a companion flame, Echo, who offers cryptic hints when you’re stuck. As you progress through multiple distinct levels, such as Sylvano Mountain Base, Faelyn Falls, or Reisa Sands, you reclaim abilities that transform the challenge.

For example, the Fleetfoot Amulet grants quick dashes to cross gaps or scale slopes, while a magical vine spell latches onto designated targets, letting you swing to new heights or activate distant switches. The ice beam freezes moving objects, creating temporary platforms, and the gravity-flipping boots allow you to walk on ceilings or undersides near specific zones. Each mechanic is carefully designed, seamlessly integrating with the game’s puzzles. You start with nothing, gradually unlocking these abilities as you progress, culminating in later stages that demand skillful combinations of all your powers.

However, some mechanics feel slightly unpolished, like the vines, which can be unpredictable and require overly precise positioning. Each stage is a continuous ascent with no checkpoints, pushing you to master every move or tumble back to the start. While the Jump King-style challenge tests reflexes and patience, clever puzzles like aligning boxes or timing swings add a Zelda-esque layer of strategy. That said, the game avoids excessive frustration: falling doesn’t punish as harshly as similar titles. Quick respawns and minimal progress loss keep the focus on skillful play rather than rage-inducing repetition.

Personally, I didn’t find Echoes of Eldoria overly difficult, partly because the level design or maps are quite small. Most players will likely finish in under three hours, though some clever “aha!” moments might slow you down as you piece together solutions without handholding. My biggest gripe is the lack of a full map view. Beyond the initial glance at the start, there’s no way to check your overall progress, a missed opportunity for speedrunners and players trying to optimize routes or uncover hidden movement tech.

    Cute Meets Challenging

Visually, Echoes of Eldoria evokes the charm of a cozy indie game with its vibrant 2D art style. Crisp, cartoonish environments, from lush forests to misty waterfalls and sunbaked ruins, pop with warmth and personality. The wizard’s small but expressive sprite comes alive through subtle details, like his robe billowing during swings or gravity flips. While spell effects like vines and ice beams stand out against the muted backdrops, the animation feels somewhat limited overall; jumps lack weight, and many actions could benefit from more fluid motion.

At just under 5€ (currently discounted), Echoes of Eldoria offers solid value, though I can’t help but wish for more modes or additional content. While not the most detailed game in its genre, it delivers satisfying gameplay flow that makes it perfect as a “precision platformer for beginners”, an accessible entry point for players new to these kind of platformers.

Priced at 6.89€, it’s an absolute steal for fans of skill-based challenges or those who enjoy supporting indie passion projects. That said, its limited polish, and relatively short length might deter more casual players. What you’re really buying here is potential, a promising first glimpse at what this talented team could create with more resources. Consider this your invitation to a trial by fire (or rather, trial by vine and ice beam).

    Pros Cons
    Simple mechanics. Short duration.
Precision is important in this game. Lacking more in content.
Charming characters and art style. There aren't any real rage moments.
    It has speedrun capabilities.

The post [PREVIEW] Koira – Man's best friend first appeared on IndieGames.

    ]]>
Attention: this is not a joke! Even though a hand-drawn adventure game Koira will release on April Fools’ Day, it certainly takes the topic of friendship seriously. I had a chance to try out a demo version of this title during Steam Next Fest and I can safely say that this musical journey is showing great promise.

You wake up in an enchanted forest and decide to follow a strange noise and discover a trapped puppy, which after being rescued becomes your best friend. Together you traverse the musical landscape, solve ancient puzzles, meet woodland creatures, and try to find your way home. Although you need to be careful along the way, as terrifying hunters lurk in the shadows…

Planet of Lana and Neva type of storywritting

Koira is a game that can as well be classified as a work of art – both graphics and soundtrack are equally stunning. Pastel colors alongside an impressive lighting invite players for an adventure into the unknown, where music is a key to successful communication. And since our character’s sounds resemble the tone of a flute while the puppy’s are smilar to a harmonica, they harmonize pretty well with each other. Since the very beginning the music acts as our support and reassurance on a quest to reach home.

There are no dialogues or written explanations, as there’s no need for them. The tale based on universally understood themes such as friendship, responsibility and curiosity about the world is simple yet emotional on its own, which is also reflected by intuitive mechanics and clear objectives. Though we get to solve some puzzles relying on activating mysterious monuments, our main focus is on taking care of our companion: feeding it, petting and playing with it. However, we still have room for just sitting down and enjoying the ambience or clouds passing in the sky.

Despite many cute and casual experiences, we also have to be ready to protect our friend from the relentless hunters, who we saw at the end of demo. I’m saying this now: if something bad ever happens to the dog, we’ll be throwing hands. As for now, the game did a great job at introducing us to the heartwarming narrative which is emphasized by remarkable presentation. If you’re a fan of story-rich adventures with a touch of cuteness, then you’ll definitely want to check out what Koira has to offer. And maybe it’ll turn out that the real treasure was the friends we made along the way.

You can play free demo of Koira on Steam.

  • Fear in video games: a motive strongly associated with horror productions, sometimes also found in survival, action or simulation genre. When fear comes into play, it ends with players’ sanity going down and their heart rate skyrocketing in the blink of an eye. That’s how it usually goes, but what if a game centered around fear wasn’t scary at all? Asfalia: Fear carried out this idea, giving us the most adorable, joyful and uplifting ”fear-filled” game for both children and grown-ups.

Adventure? It’s child’s play to me!

In Asfalia: Fear we play as Charlie, a curious and cheerful boy whose puppies suddenly get lost in the park during storm. As he searches for them, he meets Lily, a fallen star that accompanies him on his journey. Together, they need to navigate through strange worlds attacked by mysterious shadow, which makes them face their greatest fears. Only by overcoming various challenges and helping those in need they will be able to find the missing dogs, as well as save Asfalia from being taken over by sinister shadow.

It’s pretty simple and straightforward point-and-click game, some might even find it too simple and straightforward. We explore different locations, find clues to solve puzzles with and then move to the next world. There are no frustrating moments, no back-breaking riddles and no reasons to feel stuck or confused. Considering the difficulty level, as well as overall look of the game, it is quite apparent that it was made with children players in mind, in order to help them learn their emotions and grow. While the game surely succeed at that, in my opinion Asfalia: Fear can absolutely be enjoyed by adults too, for example, there are many references that were placed for older audience as comedic elements or nods to pop culture works.

The thing that both kids and adults will appreciate from this game is its astounding presentation. The worlds that we visit during our adventure are aesthetic, diverse and very interactive, players have the power to change the environment, either for advancing the plot or finding secrets. Everything is hand-painted and smoothly animated, which can be seen especially during short cutscenes (although, while I acknowledge the effort, I think it would be useful to add a skip button for some transitions and dialogues, or at least an option to speed them up a bit). It is also worth mentioning that every single line in the game is voiced by professional actors, which emphasize the atmosphere of a family-friendly fairytale.

    Fearful friends and friendly fear

Altough Asfalia: Fear is a relatively short game with a gameplay based on regular backtracking, it provides minigames and challenges that encourage players to replay. Not only they can try to get the the best score among their friends in quite peculiar version of Space Invaders, but also find all secrets and easter eggs that are awarded with the sticker. In this sense, the only possibile fear you can feel during this game is seeing empty spaces in your album, fortunately, it can be easiyl fixed with another run full of curiosity and creativity.

    Ending thoughts

Full of humour, optimism and childlike Joy – Asfalia: Fear is more of a emotionally rich and educational experience rather than an unconventional point & click game. While its simplicity and colourfulness might not speak to everyone, it is a great opportunity for anyone who loves heartening stories but gets annoyed with exhausting puzzles. In the end, it is the game’s message that stands out the strongest: fear doesn’t have to be something negative or painful. It’s a fact of life that we have to embrace. And that game helps you do that in the most wholesome way possible.

    Pros Cons
    Hand-painted smooth animations. Unskippable dialogues.
    Fully voice acted. Slow transitions.
