Indie studio Irregular Shapes has revealed its debut game City Tales – Medieval Era during the PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted event. This upcoming city-builder game will allow players to create large and vibrant medieval cities with complete freedom and control. City Tales will be available for PC via Steam in Early Access sometime in 2025.
While we have already received Manor Lords as a medieval city-builder this year, another similar title is coming next year, but with a completely different approach. The aim of this game is to design spacious cities that grow and adapt naturally. What sets it apart from similar titles is the complete control over planning, designing, and drawing city districts. All of this comes combined with a charming, hand-painted aesthetic, making the cities feel alive and authentic.
In addition to building, the game offers management of a complex economy with over 50 types of resources and 60 unique buildings. Structures are built and upgraded in real-time using procedural technology, ensuring that no building is identical. Additionally, environmental factors and nearby structures will influence the growth and appearance of each building. The game also includes narrative elements through accompanying characters who play an important role in the development of the city.
“We’re thrilled to finally reveal City Tales - Medieval Era, our first project since founding the studio in 2022,” says Rémi Malet, founder of Irregular Shapes. “As fans of city-builders, we wanted to create a game that puts creativity first while offering satisfying building and management systems. We can’t wait to see players’ creations next year.”
Summary:
City Tales – Medieval Era is a creative city-builder where players design evolving medieval cities with rich management systems, launching in 2025.
