Small indie studio Ancient Machine revealed new story trailer for VICE Undercover, their upcoming narco-thriller set in an alternate 1985 Miami. This genre-bending point-and-click adventure casts players as Vida, a Colombian-American undercover cop tasked with infiltrating the operations of a powerful cartel.
Vida works for the Electronic Crime Unit (ECU) and is sent undercover after the cartel’s top hacker mysteriously leaves his supercomputer unattended for one real-time hour each day. Posing as the hacker, Vida must fulfill contracts, navigate shifting alliances, and dismantle the cartel from within. In a world where no one can be trusted, every decision could have deadly consequences.
Described as a more intricate Papers, Please!, VICE Undercover features a retro-inspired operating system, Amigo OS, reminiscent of Windows 3.1. In the game you will access confidential databases, monitor security cameras, decode files, wire money, order hits, and uncover hidden crime networks. VICE Undercover stars Colombian actress Kimberly Reyes as Vida and cult actor Tamer Hassan in a key role.
You can also download a free demo on Steam, offering two full episodes of the game’s 24-episode story. The complete game is set to launch in early 2025, delivering over 20 hours of thrilling content.
